Tongue River headwater music
In the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, Chelsea Meynig and I set out on a hike with our instruments to find the headwaters of the northern fork of the Tongue River. When followed a beautiful stream uphill until it was just drops melting off the edge of a small patch of snow. We set up our instruments and improvised this work based on a shared conversation during our hike on what the form a headwaters music might take.

salad music and irrigation fltue
This performance is from a communal dinner held at the Pine Meadow Ranch in Sisters, Oregon. For this score, I worked closely with the chef to design a menu closely entwined with musical materials from the ranch. These recordings were piped through an 18-foot irrigation pipe with custom holes drilled in to disperse the sound onto the audience while I followed a graphical score on my cello.

cosmos 5 - water music
This work is a piece of deep science music. The harmonic language uses microtonal tuning to capture the precise intervals between different peaks in the emission spectrum of water in different physical states. The progression of musical material mirrors the phase transition processes water molecules go through - building structure, dissipating and flowing - and sits in those phases in repetitious, accumulationg structures.
